YOUTH RISK BEHAVIOR SURVEY The YRBS will be given electronically to students this week, Tuesday through Friday during the Advisory bands. Please refer to the link here to see where and when students need to gather to take their survey. It is important that all students are notified so they know where to report to beginning tomorrow, February 12, Band A. Thank you!

TRAVELERS If you are planning to travel with Chorus, Drama Club, French, or History either this year or in the next couple years and want to do some fundraising, Ms Gaudreau has forms for the Vermont Cookie Love fundraiser (selling frozen cookie dough). See Ms. Gaudreau in Room 108 for a form. The fundraiser will run from February 11 to March 13.
INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD has less than two weeks to go until the State Championship at UVM on February 16. We are highlighting our competing athletes each day here on the Tide Pride and on our new Instagram account @shsxctrack. Be sure to follow it! NOAH RUBEL Freshman, owns season bests of 13:24.45 in the 3000 Meter Run, and 11.72 in the 55 Meter Hurdles. With two third place finishes and one second place finish Noah is ranked a Division II #8 in the 55 Meter Hurdles. ISAAC LOBB Freshman, owns season bests of 47.88 in the 300 Meter Dash,11.48 in the 55 Meter Hurdles and 14' 4 in Long Jump. Like Noah Isaac has placed third in the Hurdles twice, and was once second. Isaac has been the top scoring freshman on the Spaulding team this season, and is also ranked #6 in Division II in the 55 Meter Hurdles.
COMMUNITY FORUM The next Community Forum is Wednesday, February 20 in the SHS cafeteria. The meeting will be from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. The topic will be assessments, reassessments and our reassessment days.
SAT INFORMATION & PREP To do well on the SATs, you need to practice. Guidance is offering workshops in February and early March in preparation for the March 9 SAT Test. If you haven’t signed up for the SAT’s make an appointment with your counselor. Sign up to attend a SAT Information Workshop and one or more SAT Practice Workshop(s). There are prizes awarded for students who log the most practice hours! Informational Workshops: Wednesdays February 6, 13 and 20 from 11:30-12:30, in the SHS E Classroom, Library. Practice Workshops: Tuesdays, February 12, 19 and Wednesday, March 6 from 11:30-12:30. You must attend one Information Workshop prior to the Practice Workshops. You can attend as many as you wish.
BOOTS N’ BALLS Students, please check your email for a survey entitled Boots N' Balls, our upcoming co-ed winter kickball tournament which will be held on Saturday, February 16 on Farwell Street in Barre. Tourney begins at 7:00 a.m. This year, Boots N Balls will benefit Rowen Smith a young member of our community. See Mr. Ferland or Ella McCarthy for more details.
SOPHOMORES Applications are now available for the MedQuest Health Careers Exploration Programs which run for 6 days and 5 nights. June 23-28 at Vermont Technical College in Randolph. July 28-August 2 at Northern Vermont University, Johnson Campus. Fee is $750 and financial aid is available for eligible students. Application deadline is Friday, March 8.
JUNIORS If you are applying to colleges next year, please strongly consider taking SATs this coming March. SHS will be hosting the SAT on Saturday, March 9. To register for this assessment, please visit collegeboard.org, or make an appointment with your school counselor. You need to register no later than February 8th to be guaranteed a spot and to not pay an additional late registration fee.
VSAC COLLEGE & CAREER PATHWAYS Thursday, March 21, 8:30 am to 2:30 pm at St. Michael’s College for 10th & 11th graders. We will participate in two 45-minute workshops, eat lunch in the school cafeteria, and tour the campus. No cost to attend. Sign up in Guidance asap because slots fill up fast! Parents and students are also encouraged to attend the evening portion of the event from 5-8pm which offers a resource fair with programs and organizations that support Vermonters in achieving their college and career goals. SENIORS Applications are now available for the SHS In-House Scholarships. Go to the link on shsu61.org - For Students & Parents tab or Naviance under Document Resources. You are eligible for over 60 scholarships. Submit a hard copy of the completed application to Mrs. Cross in the Guidance office by 3:00 PM on April 10. Late applications will not be accepted. Don’t wait until the last minute!
The Dr. Ernest Reynolds’ Scholarship, The Ronald York Memorial Scholarship, and The Dante Bogni Memorial Scholarship supplemental applications are also available, both online and in Guidance.
